Migration Inc. was proud to participate in the Global Refugee Forum Progress Review 2025 in Geneva, where our CEO Yordi Lassooy-Tekle represented our organization alongside states, civil society leaders, refugee-led organizations, UN agencies, funders, and the private sector.
At a time of funding cuts, political pressure, and negative narratives around migration worldwide, gathering together in person truly mattered. The energy throughout the forum was honest, grounded, and hopeful—a testament to the collective commitment to refugee rights and meaningful participation.
Refugee-led leadership took center stage
Many sessions were co-created and led by refugees themselves, creating space for open conversations about what is not working and why. Participants engaged in brave exchanges on shrinking space, mistrust, and funding gaps, while exploring concrete ideas on how to change narratives and move forward together.
From the main venue at CICG – Centre International de Conférences Genève to the creative and safe space at Impact Hub Geneva hosted by R-SEAT, the forum fostered genuine community. Not perfect. Not easy. But deeply committed.
A changing global landscape
The discussions also reflected something larger: the global order is changing, and these shifts will shape the refugee protection landscape in the years ahead. For Migration Inc., being part of these conversations means staying connected to global movements while remaining rooted in our grassroots work in the Netherlands and beyond.
As Yordi reflected: “Proud to represent Migration INC., a small grassroots organization with a big impact, and to be part of this global collective effort. Grateful for the people I met and the conversations I can’t wait to continue.”
Looking ahead with radical hope
Migration Inc. extends deep appreciation to UNHCR for convening this essential space in Geneva, the city of refugees, and to the High Commissioner for his leadership. We also extend our best wishes to the incoming High Commissioner.
As we close 2025 and look toward the new year, we carry forward the solidarity, courage, and radical hope that defined this gathering. Together, we continue building an inclusive society where everyone has the opportunity to participate, belong, and thrive. 💖
We are in this together! Wishing everyone a new year that is better and more inclusive than the one now coming to an end.
