Key Figures (sleutelpersonen) are fortunately being involved more and more often in integration processes. As experts by experience, they support newcomers with both language and participation, fulfilling a role that social workers cannot. They are often the first face of recognition, motivation, and hope.

One major challenge that municipalities face is keeping key figures engaged—especially when they work on a voluntary basis. Once they find paid employment, they are often less available. In addition, securing sufficient financial resources within municipalities remains the biggest barrier to the continued and sustainable involvement of key figures.
