Over the past period, we have worked together with trainers and role models with lived experience to empower approximately 25 female integration participants in the municipalities of Druten and Wijchen.
Through a series of training programs, conducted in Arabic- and Somali-speaking groups, the women worked on strengthening their personal and social resilience. Topics such as self-confidence, setting boundaries, participation in society, and the position of women within different cultural contexts were central themes.
Many women face challenges when building a new life, including social isolation, cultural and social pressure, and uncertainty about their position and opportunities. This is precisely why recognition, safety, and space for personal growth are so important.
The involvement of trainers and community leaders with lived experience is a key part of our approach. They speak the participants’ language, share their own experiences where appropriate, and therefore serve not only as trainers but also as role models.
When women are empowered, it is not only their own self-confidence that grows. The impact extends to families, children, and ultimately society as a whole.
Many thanks to VIH, the Municipality of Druten, and the Municipality of Wijchen for this valuable collaboration. And of course, congratulations to all participants on successfully completing their course!
